Abkhazian Side Blame Georgian Special Forces in the Murder of Police Officer

January 11, 2012

On January 9, 2012 police officer Vitali Rodonaya was killed in Gagida village in Gali district, Abkhazia. Abkhazian de-facto prosecutor’s office blames Georgian Special Forces in the murder; they have launched criminal investigation on this version of the fact.

Online editionКавказский узел-reported that Vitali Rodonaya, 33, living in Kokhora village, Tkvarcheli district was ethnic Georgian and worked at the Gali police office. On January 9, Rodonaya was in his mother-in-law’s family in Gagida village where three masked, armed people broke into the house and took him outside. Soon, Vitali Rodonaya was found killed 150 meters away from the house; he had 11 bullet lodges.

Abkhazia’s de-facto prosecutor general believes Vitali Rodonaya was killed by officers of the Georgian Special Forces because similar accidents occurred in the past too. According to the Кавказский узел, the Abkhazian de-facto prosecutor’s office claims that ethnic Georgian police officers were killed in the past too.

Official Sokhumi alleges Georgian Special Forces do not forgive ethnic Georgians to work for de-facto governmental institutions of Abkhazia.

Georgian law enforcement bodies have not commented on the accusations of Abkhaz side yet.
