Additional Funds to be Allocated from the State Budget for Political Entities

January 27, 2012

Political parties, who received considerable amount of votes in the local self-governmental elections in 2010, will receive additional funds for TV-ads.

The chair of the Legal Committee of the Parliament Pavle Kublashvili clarified the parliamentary majority promised the political parties to allocate additional funds last year and relatively they will realize their promise this year. Kublashvili added political parties, who received considerable amount of votes in the self-governmental elections in 2010, will receive additional funds from the state budget for TV-ads.

Those political parties are: the National Movement, Christian Democratic Movement, and two more parties within the CDM’s block – Christian Democratic Party and By Ourselves (currently European Democrats), the parties which were unified within one block during the elections – Free Democrats, the Rights, and Republic Party, the National Council of Zviad Dzidziguri’s Koba Davitashvili’s and Zurab Nogaideli’s parties and Enterpreneurs.

Pavle Kublashvili mentioned neither exact amount of the money, which will be allocated for each party, nor the principles for the distribution of the funds. It is not unclear which particular article of the state budget will allocate the additional funds for the political parties and whether the parties will be instructed to spend the funds only on TV-ads or on newspaper and radio ads too.

Pavle Kublashvili intends to hold press-conference on the issue today.

The amendments are planned to be introduced to the Law on Political Unions and it will be initiated in near future. The parliament will discuss the amendments during the spring sessions.

The Parliament starts spring sessions on the first Tuesday of February.
