The rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association in South Caucasia

On February 3-4, 2012 Mr. Maina Kiai, the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association is holding the consultations with the human rights defenders of South Caucasus. The consultations are being held before the Special Rapporteur’s official visit starts with Georgian Authorities on February 6-13.

Within the consultations Mr. Maina Kiai and regional human rights defenders will meet journalists accredited in Georgia to speak about the situation how the right to freedom of assembly and association are implemented in Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Together with other human rights defenders from South Caucasus and members of Human Rights Houses Network, they have raised their main concern during the consultations with UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of assembly and association organized by the Human Rights House Foundation in Tbilisi 3-4 February.

UchaNanuashvili – Executive Director of the Human Rights Centre, Board Chairperson of the Human Rights House Tbilisi,  coordinator of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders in Georgia.

Azerbaijan:
Integam Aliyev - the leader of Legal Education Society, one of seven partner organizations of the Human Rights House Azerbaijan, which was closed down by the Azerbaijani authorities March 2011. Legal Education Society is coordinating the work of South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders in Azerbaijan.
 
Armenia:
Mikael Danielyan - the leader of the Armenian Helsinki Association in Armenia, coordinator of the South Caucasus Network of Human Rights Defenders in Armenia and one of the partner organizations engaged in the establishment of a Human Rights House in Yerevan.
