Tamar Kordzaia Appointed to the Post of Executive Director of the Charter of Journalistic Ethics

Tamar Kordzaia, lawyer of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association, has been appointed to the position of the Executive Director of the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics.  David Kldiashvili stays in office of the Secretary of the Charter.  The given decisions have been made by the Charter Council at February 5 session.

According to the Charter Chairman Zviad Koridze, only seven applications have been received on the given vacancy; it has been shortlisted to three candidates and Tamar Kordzaia was been selected.
“The Council decided that she understands the challenge Charter is facing the best.  Additionally, along with legal education she is very well acquainted with Georgian media as is highly trusted by journalists,” Zviad Koridze told media.ge.

Chairman of the Charter Council will hold a press-conference on the given issue on February 17.  Tamar Kordzaia stated she will comment to the given issue only on February 17.

According to the Charter Statute, Executive Director is appointed for a one-year term based on a competition.  Authority of an executive director may be prolonged for another year if decided by the Charter Council.

Executive Director represents the Charter with the third parties, revenue and other administrative bodies, banks, legal and physical persons.  According to the rules set by the Charter Council the Executive Director manages the Charter finances and material resources and is responsible for their proper usage; signs official and financial documentation.  Executive Director approves draft programs to be implemented; makes project related contracts on behalf of the Charter; in agreement with the Charter Council appoints and dismisses project coordinators and Charter employees.

An employment contract signed by the Chairman of the Charter Council is made with an Executive Director.
