Court Satisfies Palitra Media Lawsuit

February 9, 2012

On February 8 Tbilisi City Court Civil Case Board satisfied the suit of the media-holding Palitra against the leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili.

In December 2011 Palitra Media sued Natelashvili for spread degrading disinformation and requested them to deny the information.  Natelashvili spread information during his interview with Maestro TV, Kviris Kronika and Alia newspapers.

Leader of the Labor Party accused Palitra Media of “accepting money” from the billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili and of seizing a school building from children.

As Zviad Kordzadze, the lawyer of the Palitra Media told Palitra TV, the Judge completely satisfied their suit.  Shalva Natelashvili and his representatives did not attend the hearing.  The verdict was announced in the absence of the defendant side.

The Labor Party said the Court was not fair and they did not intend to deny the information published by their leader. According to their statement, their allegation about Palitra Media’s funding by Ivanishvili is documented by the Chamber of Control.  Archive materials prove that Public School # 102 was located in the territory of the holding office. A leader of the Labor Party Soso Shatberashvili studied at the school.

“The facts are evident and we need no court to prove them. We will not obey their so called verdict. Besides that, we are not going to apologize for having told the truth,” Labor Party statement reads.
