Khatuna Iosava: “Sopiko Nikolashvili’s Criminal Case is not Sealed”

The head of Public Relations Department of Ministry of Justice of Georgia stated to Kakheti Information Center that Sopiko Nikolashvili’s criminal case is not sealed. Sopiko Nikolashvili is charged with the attempt of deliberate murder and illegal carrying of weapon.

According to her, information disseminated by the lawyers of the defendant that Sopiko Nikolashvili’s criminal case is sealed is not true.


Sopiko Nikolashvili’s lawyer Mamuka Nozadze disseminated information on February 7th that Gurjaani regional Office of Prosecutor sealed the case of Sopiko Nikolashvili. Another lawyer Maguli Ghvaladze confirmed this information to Kakheti Information Center on the same day. “I already signed the warning letter. You will not hear anything from me. I do not have right,” – Maguli Ghvaladze noted.

20-year-old Sopiko Nikolashvili who is a former journalist and a daughter of opposition activist Davit Nikolashvili is charged with the offences of illegal carrying of weapon and deliberate murder of 23-year-old Giorgi Sibashvili. Gurjaani Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) detained her on January 31st of 2012. Regional Court passed imprisonment as a compulsory measure against her. The defendant is placed in Rustavi colony. Giorgi Sibashvili is an inspector-investigator of Main Regional Department of Kakheti of MIA, his father Gocha Sibashvili – deputy head of Gurjaani police, uncle Giorgi Sibashvili is a deputy Governor of Kakheti. Gurjaani police is investigating the case of Sopiko Nikolashvili.
