New Rights Party Requests Eradication of Growth of White Butterflies in Guria

February 14, 2012

New Rights Party calls on government to take radical steps to protect the population of Guria Region from American white butterflies.

As interpressnews was informed by the party, it has been several years the problem of spread of American white butterflies was added to numerous problems of Guria population which are: problems with roads, lack of water, lack of oil, fertilization, agricultural techniques and others. According to the party, growth of the butterflies takes more mass scale.

“Butterfly significantly damages and entirely destroys fruit trees, plants, pollutes water and food. During the season of spring-summer, Guria villages are practically paralyzed. Peasant is deprived of opportunity to fight this with any means. Local measures will not help because if it is not entirely destroyed it will spread again. Fighting American butterfly with primitive, simple poisoning devices will not bring any result. This problem can be overcome only through the complex measures from the state side,” – Levan Kalandadze, head of economic direction of New Rights Party states.

According to him, it is essential to conduct mass-scale air poisoning of the region villages to destroy the butterflies.

“Government did nothing to eradicate this problem. We call on the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture to timely elaborate and conduct special measures to eradicate the spread of American butterflies in Guria region,” – Kalandadze noted.
