An Incident To Be Qualified as Terrorist Act Easily

February 17, 2012

The procedures to qualify an incident as a terrorist act will become simpler. Relevant changes will be introduced to the Criminal Code of Georgia. According to the current edition, explosion, arson, application of arms or any other action giving rise to threat of a person’s death, substantial property damage or any other grave consequence and undermines public security, strategic, political or economic interests of the state is terrorist act.

According to the draft-law, an incident shall be qualified as a terrorist act without undermining public security, strategic, political or economic interests of the state.

Particularly, a terrorist act will be explosion, arson, application of arms or any other action giving rise to threat of a person’s death, substantial property damage or any other grave consequence. These acts can aim intimidation of a governmental agency, or an agency of foreign government or international organization.

The authors and imitators of the draft-law are MPs Kakhaber Anjaparidze and Zviad Kukava.
