Hacker Attack on Facebook Profile of the Georgian President

The Facebook page of the President of Georgia was attacked by hackers.

Namely, in the evening of February 24, a lot of messages were sent to the president’s profile. Several thousand messages were sent per minute. One and the same texts were used in messages which stated: “Mikheil Saakashvili is Armenian, his wife cooperates with US Special Forces; Georgian people are good people and deserve best president.”

Initially, the attack lasted about one and half hour with 30 minutes intervals and then continued during another half an hour. All messages were written in Russian language and later all of them disappeared. At the moment, the attack on the president’s page is stopped.

Deputy Head of the President’s Administration Irma Nadirashvili confirmed the information about cyber-attack. She said the department of information technologies clarified the messages were sent by computer program.

On February 23, Georgian bloggers were active on Dimitry Medvedev’s Facebook page after what they were blocked.

It is not first attack on Georgian official websites, including President’s website. The attack was particularly intensive on Georgian websites in 2008 before Russian-Georgian war.
