President’s Security Guards Hindered Professional Activities of Journalist

February 28, 2012

On February 27, President Mikheil Saakashvili visited the recently opened hospital in Kvareli. During his visit, the officers of the president’s security guard hindered professional activities of the journalists from the Information Center of Kakheti.

Journalist Natia Danelishvili said she tried to interview the people, who were brought to meet the President in front of the hospital. However, the security guards demanded her to delete the recorded interviews and leave the area.

The ICK sent two more correspondents to cover the President’s visit in Kvareli properly.

It is not first occasion when the President’s security service officers interfere in the professional activities of the ICK journalists without any grounds. On September 2, 2011 they restricted freedom of the journalist Natia Danelishvili during 40 minutes when the President was visiting Gremi. Nobody responded to the fact from the law enforcement agencies.
