Silknet Company Dug 40 Hectare Cornfield of Peasants in Khornabuji

March 7, 2012

The representatives of the company Silknet in the village Khornabuji of Dedoplistskaro region dug 40 hectare cornfield of peasants. According to the sufferers, they broke in the cornfields without permission and started taking out copper wires from the ground.

“It has been two weeks that they illegitimately broke in the cornfield and started taking out copper wires from the ground. Then they dug the corn shoots with the tractor. To plough one hectare ground costs 80 GEL. Besides, we bought the wheat seeds and in fact we cannot compensate the money we already spent. They will assault others too. We addressed the deputy Governor Emzar Janashvili to find out more about the situation. He said that they will compensate for the damage they caused. But the Silknet representatives refused to do so. We are forced to file complaint against Silknet,” – one of the sufferers Tsitsino Piduashvili stated to Kakheti Information Center.

Kakheti Information Center contacted Emzar Janashvili for a comment. According to him, Silknet Company is abiding the law. “According to the document received from the Public Registry, these lands and wires belong to the Company Silknet and it has full right to control its assets. The peasants can receive compensation from the Company if they present the relevant document proving their claims on the land,” – Emzar Janashvili noted.

Kakheti Information Center contacted the PR Service of the Company Silknet as well. The head of the service Teona Tsereteli noted that the Company is conducting works according to the law and he will make a longer comment later.

The deputy Governor of Kakheti Giorgi Sibashvili made a comment regarding the digging of 40 hectare cornfield by the Company Silknet.

“Silknet is really constructing the buildings and it is agreed on with the local government. If someone is damaged by the Silknet actions, they can present a document confirming the right of ownership or use of the land and receive a compensation,” – Sibashvili stated to Kakheti Information Center.
