Irakli Melashvili: “All Alarming Articles Removed”

March 20, 2012

Representatives of the Campaign “It Affects You” positively evaluated their cooperation with the legal committee of the Parliament of Georgia and stated that soon serious amendments will be reflected in the Election Code.

Irakli Melashvili from the NGO “Freedom of Choice” stated that main issues have already been agreed and amendments to the Law About Political Unions of Citizens in near future.

“The notion of directly or indirectly linked person was completely removed from the law; the Chamber of Control will no longer be able to impose restriction on physical or legal entity due to his/her political sympathy or activities; the law will prescribe concrete norms which the Chamber of Control should rely on. The State Audit Company will impose restrictions only on those people whose expenses [not incomes] are related with the expenditures of a political party or he/she spends money directly on the election campaign. The sequestration articles were farther clarified and only disputable part of property will be sequestered and the court shall settle the case of sequestration within 24 hours. In fact, all alarming articles were removed from the Law,” Irakli Melashvili said.
