Grigol Vashadze Shares President’s Criticism of Foreign Embassies in Georgia

March 21, 2012

The Georgia’s Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze shared the President’s criticism of embassies in Georgia.

FM Vashadze told journalists that the President intended to express the dissatisfaction of the citizens of Georgia, who often complain about service in embassies.

“We constantly receive complaints from citizens of Georgia that in some embassies they misunderstand visa-regime agreement signed between our and their states. We will not allow anybody to breach rights of our citizens. So, as soon as our citizens file complaints to the consulate department, where they allege about unfair refusal to grant visa, or about a delay in the respond, incorrect treatment, the Georgia’s Foreign Ministry will take measures to prevent it”, Vashadze said and added that he often receives similar instructions from the President.

Mikheil Saakashvili criticized employees of foreign embassies during his visit at the Tbilisi Information Centre.

"In order to recall what should not be restituted in our country, we will not have to visit neighboring countries and meet a Road Police Officer. Visit any foreign embassy in Georiga to get a visa and you will see how they - both foreign and Georgian employees - treat our citizens. They treat people as if they are seniors here and they have right to humiliate others. It often happens in the embassies in our country and in the developed European states too,” Saakashvili said.
