William Lahue Interested in Alleged Information about Paramilitary Groups in Georgia

Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia, NATO/PFP Liaison Officer in the South Caucasus William Lahue got interested into the information about alleged paramilitary formations in Georgia.

News Agency “Pirveli” was reported that Lahue met Irakli Alasania from the Free Democrats to discuss the issue.

The meeting was organized by the NATO Liaison Office and participants discussed the information about alleged creation of paramilitary groups in Georgia and election environment in the country.

Before leaving for Switzerland, Irakli Alasania met US Ambassador to Georgia John Bass.

Both meetings were closed for public.

The leader of the Free Democrats made statement about creation of paramilitary groups in Samegrelo region which are not reserve military units at all. Alasania doubts the government will use those formations for the civil controversy if they do not receive enough votes in the upcoming elections. Alasania has already forwarded the materials about paramilitary groups to the National Security Council of Georgia.

The representatives of the National Security Council and Georgian MIA state that the information spread by Irakli Alasania is not true.
