NGOs Welcome President’s Initiative

April 4, 2012

NGOs united under the campaign This Affects You Too welcome President’s initiative to invite not only short-term, but long-term observers for upcoming Parliamentary elections, - reads the statement of NGOs.

President Mikheil Saakashvili stated on April 3rd at the session of NATO-Georgia joint commission: “We have elections this year and we call strongly on international community, on European Union, the European Parliament, the OSCE, our partner country, including members of the Alliance to send not only short-term, but long-term observers, to do polling of public opinion for all this period, to monitor Georgian media coverage, to monitor party financing mechanism in order to ensure that not just the day of elections but the whole process is transparent…”

NGOs express hope that for the nearest future government of Georgia will send official address to international organizations and allies of Georgia so the international observers “timely start assessment of pre-election environment.”

Member organizations of campaign This Affects You Too had addressed government of Georgia on March 9th with the request to invite long-term observation mission of ODIHR.

Parliamentary elections will be held in October in Georgia.
