April 6, 2012

Journalist Sulkhan Meskhidze of the Adjara P.S. blames Kobuleti district police in the interference in his political activities.

Meskhidze told Interpersnews that Kobuleti district police officers physically assaulted him when executor was evicting a family from the house.

“Having arrived there, I found extremely tense situation; dozens of police officers were mobilized on the place and tried to break the barricades which the population had set up against them; afterwards the quarrel started between the police and people. I was covering everything when a police officer approached and struck on my back; he did not allow me to cover the incident. Then he dragged me away and tried to seize the camera but could not because I had caviled rope on my arm. Finally, people saved me. Now I am fine and continue my work in the office,” Sulkhan Meskhidze said.

According to the journalist, he will appeal to the Court against the police officers.

The incident occurred in Agmashenebeli Street in Kobuleti when Execution Bureau was evicting Murman Megrelidze’s family from the house with the support of police officers.
