Mikheil Saakashvili: “Whoever Protests Idea about Reserve Army, Will Act in Favor of Georgia’s Enemy”

April 10, 2012

“Whoever protests the idea about Georgian army, including the Reserve Army, will directly act in favor of Georgia’s enemy,” the president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili said on April 9 during his meeting with soldiers in the yard of the Parliament of Georgia.

He said 50 000 people voluntarily joined the reserve army for the last nine months and their number will reach 100 000 in summer.

“I am not speaking about the obligatory reserve service; I mean the volunteer reservists, those Georgian people who are ready to take military trainings for the defense of their town, district, residential building, etc. It is not caprice of any political party or group. Those people, with various political, religious and ethnic belongings, voluntarily join the reserve army because the idea of Georgian statehood is equally important for them and I am proud that this institution created in our country alongside the regular army. We should never face the same problem when one part of Georgian society was fighting with the enemy and the second part of it was enjoying time in restaurants in Tbilisi,” Mikheil Saakashvili said.
