May 25 – Journalists’ Solidarity Demonstration in Tbilisi

On May 25, at 12:00 pm, Journalists’ Solidarity Demonstration will be organized near the Ministry of Justice in Gorgasali Str. # 24a in Tbilisi.

The demonstration participants will express their protest by whistling. They will request prompt investigation of the intimidation facts against journalists and punishment of those officials who hindered professional activities of journalists, attacked, insulted and physically assaulted or arbitrarily detained them

“Twenty intimidation facts of journalists occurred for the last two months. The government refuses to investigate those facts. None of the harasser officials were punished. If you are a journalist and think that your rights are breached, if you think that intimidation facts against your colleagues shall be investigated, join us! We must protect our rights together! Let us jointly request investigation of those facts! Express Solidarity!” the statement reads.

The statement of Georgia based media organizations and journalists will be spread during the demonstration. They will call upon the President of Georgia to implement his obligations under the Georgian Law and to ensure safe environment for journalists’ activities in the country. The demonstrators will provide international organizations with detailed information about harassment of journalists and violation of their rights.
