Human Rights Center Gave Press-Conference about Journalist Gela Mtivlishvili’s Physical Assault

Today, on May 21 at 13:00 pm the Human Rights Center gave a special press-conference about physical assault of journalist Gela Mtivlishvili by Tianeti police officers.

Ucha Nanuashvili - Executive Director of the Human Rights Center - introduced the journalists with the Center’s position. He said it is alarming when similar facts remain uninvestigated and violence against journalists is encouraged.
 
Journalist Gela Mtivlishvili spoke about the incident in details – how he was detained and what happened in the Tianeti police station on May 20.

Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association Zaza Khatiashvili expressed solidarity with the journalist and joined the press-conference. He called upon journalists to unify and protest physical assault of their colleague and interference in his professional activities.

Representatives of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and foreign embassies accredited in Georgia also attended the press-conference.

The Human Rights Center spread urgent appeal about physical assault of Gela Mtivlishvili at the press-conference.
