Actors Playing Priests Quitted “Church Wedding”

July 2, 2012

Two actors quitted Levan Glonti’s film “Church Wedding”. They decided to leave filming after clergymen and students of Theological Seminary gathered on the scene and hindered filming process.

Film-director Levan Glonti finished filming of a short movie “Church Wedding: in the frame of the project “Tbilisi- My City.” The film has become very popular before its screening because of controversy about it. One small scene caused all these disagreement – priest is moving by so-called rollers on the bridge.

Clergymen and students of Seminary assembled in the filming area in Rike Park and failed the filming process. The clergymen alleged it is sin to place a priest on roller.

As a result, actors playing the priests’ roles in the movie refused to continue participation.

Film-director Levan Glonti confirmed with Netgazeti that actors quitted the project though refrained from speaking about reasons.

“Six priests participated in that short episode and two of them left. However, they did not clarify the reasons of their decision. Apparently, they were impressed by that fact,” Levan Glonti said.

Producer Marika Jabua said the actors quitted the project based on personal motives.

“Clergymen psychologically oppressed them. They intimidated actors, threatened with hell and sinning by playing the role of the priest. Several actors could not resist this oppression and left,” Marija Jabua said.

She added the actors refuse to make comments on this issue with media.

Short movie “Church Wedding” will be screened in September.
