Regional Problems of Ninth Channel

July 3, 2012

TV-Company “Ninth Channel” faces problems when looking for correspondents and offices for rent in the regions. Advisor to the Director General of the Ninth Channel Irina Tevdorashvili told ICMM that they could not find correspondents in Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda yet. As for Dusheti, they faced same problem there too but short time ago they sent a correspondent from Tbilisi to work there.

Director General of the Ninth Channel Kakha Bekauri told ICMM that they face more problems when renting offices in the regions. Bekauri said the owners of the already rented offices in four regions ceased contracts due to oppression by security service.

Kakha Bekauri said journalists are mostly suggested to avoid cooperation with the Ninth Channel.

“We somehow manage to find correspondents but we often face problems when renting offices. Our rent contracts were ceased in four regions. I have saved statements of all office-owners who wrote that they were summoned by security service officers and warned about facing problems; those people openly wrote about intimidation. It happened in Signagi, Sachkhere and Borjomi. Those people wrote that they were called to the district administrations and compelled to cease contracts,’ Kakha Bekauri said.
