State Monitoring Service Studies Transaction of about 6 Million Lari from the Accounts of Ivanishvili and His Spouse to Nodar Javakhishvili’s Bank Acc

July 12, 2012

According to the Financial Monitoring Service of Political Parties at the State Audit Agency, up to 6 million lari was transferred from the bank accounts of Bidzina Ivanishvili and his spouse to Nodar Javakhishvili, director general of Cartu Bank that might be implemented by neglecting the law.

Regarding the issue, Financial Monitoring Service of the State Audit Agency sent open letter to Javakhishvili and requested to provide them with the information about implemented activities and expenditures occurred as a result of transaction within three days.

Interpresnews published full statement of the Financial Monitoring Service of Political Parties:

“Information officially obtained by the State Audit Service of Georgia proves that up to 6 million lari was transferred from the bank accounts of physical person, who has declared political goals and aims, Bidzina Ivanishvili and his spouse Ekaterine Khvedelidze to the bank account of Director General of Cartu Bank Nodar Javakhishvili throughout 2012; the latter had withdrawn the money from the bank account immediately after the transfer.

Since Bidzina Ivanishvili, due to his publicly declared election goals and aims, is subject of Article 261 of the Organic Law of Georgia about Political Union of Citizens, and simultaneously has breached requirements of the law about funding of political parties several times, there is a basis for well-grounded suspicion the abovementioned transactions might be related with his political activities and the transferred money might be illegally spent by Nodar Javakhishvili.

In order to obtain reasonable evidence on compliance of the transferred solid sums on Javakhishvili’s bank account with the requirements of the law, the Financial Monitoring Service requested Director General of JSC Cartu Bank to provide the Service with documented information about activities and expenditures occurred as a result of received funding within three days,” the statement of the Financial Monitoring Service states.
