164 Families Demands Compensation

August 20, 2012

On August 20 at a meeting in Ozurgeti, 164 families’ residents of Megreladze, Jojiashvili, and Kalinini Street demanded compensation.

According to them, LTD Batumi has taken lands that were on their property in the village Bzvani. In 2012 this land was legalized as result of privatization. Tea plantations were planted on these lands and famers wanted to use them but suddenly they heard that someone wanted to grow blueberries on this land.

LTD. Batumi is really going to grow blueberries on 60 acres in Bzvani. But LTD did not say anything about that compensation that the owners of the land demand.

Local government says that they are not informed about this fact.

According to information that is on official website, the pilot blueberry production program initiated by the ministry of agriculture and supported by Agriculture Corporation started in the spring of 2011. The program aims to develop the primary production of blueberries.
