District Governor Fined with 1000 Lari

August 22, 2012

Valeri Barnabishvili, governor of Chalaubani village, was fined with 1 000 lari for having illegally placed agitation posters of the National Movement in the village administration’s office. The Information Center of Kakheti had spread photo and video about this violation.

“On August 16, 2012, media sources spread information concerning printed agitation materials of political party “United National Movement”, placed on the walls in the offices of the Head of the local municipality and its specialists, in the village of Chalaubani of Kakheti Region.
On August 17, 2012 the Inter-agency Task Force for Free and Fair Elections (IATF) notified the CEC of Georgia on the above-mentioned fact and recommended to carry out appropriate measures.

Election Administration researched the case in details. The Chair of Gurjaani District Election Commission (DEC) drew up administrative violation protocol, which was sent to the Gurjaani Regional Court. Correspondingly, upon the adjudication, Head of the local municipality was fined with 1000 GEL,” the statement of the CEC reads.

Before that, ICK reported about another misuse of administrative resources by the National Movement. On August 13, http://www.ick.ge/ published video-material which demonstrates that a social worker of the Gurjaani district administration has placed National Movement’s election posters in her office. CEC did not respond to this fact.
