Batumi Mayor Resigned

August 29, 2012
On August 29, authority of Batumi Mayor Robert Chkhaidze was officially suspended at the special session of the Batumi City Council. He was resigned based on his personal resignation letter though he did not attend the session.

The reason of Chkhaidze’s resignation is upcoming elections of Adjara Supreme Council. He intends to be a majoritarian candidate in the elections.

Chairman of the Batumi City Council Giorgi Kirtadze evaluated Chkhaidze’s activities on the city mayor’s position very positively. Chkhaidze had worked on the position since September 14 of 2007.

Two more city council members from the majority Eka Targamandze and Nodar Putkaradze had their authority stopped. The latter was head of department for youth affairs under Ministry of Adjara Education and Culture. They will participate in the elections through the party list of the National Movement.

Press-center of the City Council stated deputy mayor Jemal Ananidze will be temporary city mayor in Batumi.
