National Movement Placed Posters in Places Prohibited by the City Hall

September 13, 2012

Posters of the National Movement’s majoritarian candidate are pasted on the fence around the building of former department-store, where construction activities are going on in Baku Street in Batumi. Posters of Giorgi Baramidze (UNM’s majoritarian candidate in Batumi for the parliament) and Robert Chkaidze (UNM’s majoritarian candidate for Adjara Supreme Council) appeared two days ago; they were pasted at night.

According to the resolution of the City Hall, election agitation is prohibited in Shavsheti and Baku streets.

Giorgi Kirtadze, chairman of the Batumi city council, said the resolution of the City Hall envisages only buildings and not the fence:  posters shall not be placed on buildings in prohibited areas. National Movement pasted posters on the fence and not on the building.

Parmen Jalagonia head of GYLA’s office in Adjara states that this fact is administrative violation. “That building is located in the prohibited area. Thus, we think the fence located in the prohibited zone must be prohibited area as well and posters must not be placed there.”
