Zaza Khatiashvili: “Lawyer Irma Chkadua’s son was arrested on Political Grounds”

Zaza Khatiashvili chairmen of the Georgian Bar Association and lawyer Gela Nikolasivhvili member of the association stated at the press conference that Lawyer Irma Chkadua’s son was arrested on political grounds because of her mother’s activities.

As Gela Nikolasivhili and Zaza Khatiashvili mentioned Irma Chkadua took part in a serious and well known cases and defended donators of the political coalition Georgian Dream and fund Cartu. It became reason of arresting her 21 year old son Anri Jokhadze.

According to Gela Nikolaishvili Irma Chkadua’s son was taken by police on August 26 from his house under the charge of the crime envisaged by Article 260 Part I of the Criminal Code that concerns drug-abuse.

It is noteworthy that before his arrest he made a comment with Real TV after Georgian Dream’s assembly where he openly stated that he wants to live in democratic Georgia. A criminal case was launched against Jokhadze on the basis of operative information that some kind criminal group prepares and sells drugs called Subotex in Georgia. So far, only one person from the group was arrested on the grounds of drug-addiction. Like it usually happens in politically motivated cases, independent witnesses did not attend Anri Jokhadze’s search that is violation of criminal procedural law,” Gela Nikolaishvili said.

Irma Chkadua said her son was not drug-abuser; he was a student with perfect behavior. Irma Chkadua said she will take all necessary measures to protect her son and she might even to start a hunger strike.

Tomorrow Zaza Khatiashvili, Irma Chkadua and Gela Nikolaishvili are traveling to Brussels to discuss human rights problems in Georgia including Anri Jokhadze’s case at the European Parliament.
“Irma Chkadua’s son sits in prison because her mother protected others’ rights; it is illegal, but we hope this injustice will soon finished,” Zaza Khatiashvili Chairmen of GBA said.

He added that on September 12 Helsinki committee discussed Anri Jokhadze’s case and declared him political prisoner.

Pre-trial hearing of the case is planned on September 27.
