Prisoner’s Mother Alleges Her Son Was Ruthlessly Beaten in Rustavi Prison Last Night Because He Blames Minister of Interior in Murder

September 20, 2012
Mother of the convicted Goderdzi Kiknadze, serving his term in Rustavi Prison # 6, informed Human Rights Center that last night prison personnel broke into her son’s cell and ruthlessly beat him. A stranger called the mother from the custody and informed her about it.

Goderdzi Kiknadze was convicted for murder 13 years ago and later he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Goderdzi Kiknadze, convicted for completely different crime, was charged for the murder of a prisoner.

The mother claims her son was innocent and Minister Bacho Akhalaia participated in the murder, which occurred 13 years ago. “My son kept silence for a long time; because he was afraid of being killed if he had said truth. Short time ago, he decided to tell the truth because he prefers to die than stay in prison for life. I am very scared! I have the only son and they are going to kill him!” the prisoner’s mother told HRC.

Human Rights Center’s lawyer Eka Kobesashvili defends the rights of Goderdzi Kiknadze. The prisoner’s mother and Eka Kobesashvili went to Rustavi Prison 6 in order to get information about Kiknadze’s health conditions on the place. Public Defender’s Office was also informed about and his monitor is trying to meet the prisoner.

Human Rights Center calls on the Georgian government to ensure the safety and security of Goderdzi Kiknadze’s life due to Georgian Minister of the Interior Bacho Akhalia’s threat on his life.
