Information about Illegal Donators of the National Movement Is Secret

September 20, 2012

Tazo Kupreishvili, Netgazeti

State Audit Office, Tbilisi City Court and United National Movement have refused to issue information about five donators of the UNM, who were declared to be illegal donators by Mogeladze’s institution and sent to the court for farther discussion.

On August 27, 2012 State Audit Office reported that they had petitioned to the Tbilisi City Court to impose sanction of 1, 575 million lari on illegal donators of the UNM.

“Official evidence obtained by the SAO confirmed that five contributors who made donations to the UNM did not have savings that would have allowed them to make the donations from their own funds,” on August 27 SAO stated.

A significant detail differentiates this statement from other statements of the SAO – the illegal donators are not mentioned in this statement.

When SAO releases statements about illegal donators of opposition political parties, it always lists the names and detailed scheme of money transfer.

On August 28, Netgazeti tried to estimate the names of those donators but the head of the press-center Pati Mamiashvili said it was personal information and they could not publish it.

We also applied to the National Movement with the same request but after our many attempts to get the information from them but they said they could not release information about possible perpetrators because it was competence of the SAO.

Representative of the City Court’s press-center Keti Basilashvili said she did not have access to similar information and we should officially appeal to the Court with the same request.

On September 13, Netgazeti requested public information from the SAO and Tbilisi City Court and officially requested to name those five people and release court judgment on their fining. Court and SAO have maximum 10 days to release this information.

On September 13, Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association provided Netgazeti with the information about illegal donators which is hidden for journalists. The SAO had released this information on them several days ago without any problem. All five donators of the UNM were individual entrepreneur and they are: Koba Naskidashvili, donated 48 000 lari to the UNM; 2. Lagodekhi district resident Amirakh Amirakhov – 49 000 lari; 3. Avtandil Sulkhanishvili from Akhmeta – 53 000 lari. 4. Guram Bekauri from Kaspi – 55 000 lari and 5. Ilia Noniashvili from Kaspi – 60 000 lari.

It is not known yet whether the Tbilisi City Court has fined the abovementioned people with five-fold amount of the donated sum. Since SAO, National Movement and City Court did not provide us with the requested information, Netgazeti could not cover the court proceeding.
