Central Election Commission Refused American Monitors to Observe the Elections though Byelorussian CEC got Accreditation

September 20, 2012

CEC refused the American monitoring group to observe the elections in Georgia. The representatives of American organization Committee for Open Democracy stated about this on the press conference held in the Interpressnews office.

As Brian Mefford-the executive director of the committee clarified that, as a reason of refusal CEC named the insufficient information that the organization presented.

“Our organization got accreditation to observe elections in various countries for six times. We observed elections in Ukraine, Moldova, Slovenia and Montenegro. The monitoring group has been refused to observe the parliamentary elections scheduled in Georgia on October 1. This fact refers to miss the democratic principles and institutes which were obtained by fighting during years,” the organization stated.

According to the Committee for Open Democracy the CEC gave the accreditation to the Byelorussian delegation “which is officially recognized as the last dictatorship in Europe.”

“The administration of Saakashvili gave the accreditation to the chairman of Byelorussian CEC. This person falsified elections and implemented political terror so that he is prohibited to arrive in USA and countries of European Union. In spite of this president Mikheil Saakashvili still accepted him,” Brian Mefford-the executive director of the committee mentioned.

As the organization members stated they will try to get the accreditation again. If not so, as they stated there will be nearly three hundreds less foreign observers on the parliamentary elections in Georgia.
