Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office interrogated former officer of the Gldani Prison # 8 Davit Akobia in the frame of the ongoing investigation against the personnel of the penitentiary department.

The September 19 statement of the Prosecutor’s Office states that Davit Akobia cooperates with the investigation, he has already made testimony and provides the investigation group with significant information.

Prosecutor’s office reported that Davit Akobia expressed wish to join special program of witness protection. Akobia stated the following: “I started working at Gldani Prison # 8 on February 7, 20122 and worked there till August 24, 2012. On August 5, security inspector of the Gldani prison Boris Parulava got in touch with me; he seemed nervous and said they had video-footage of the Gldani prison for what he might be arrested; so he wanted to immediately leave the country but before that he asked me to make another video-footage. In exchange of it he promised to pay serious sum and I agreed. On August 24 I was on duty; Mr. Boris Parulava brought video-recorded which I had to attach to my trousers. On August 25 I met Boris Parulava and gave him the video-footage. He said he was going to send the materials to Lado Bedukadze in Belgium. He said Bedukadze would also contact me. On August 28 Bedukadze called me on skype and promised all kind assistance –material and other; but asked me to go to his house. Boris Parulava was to give me the money; then he would assist me when I arrive in Belgium. On August 29, Boris Parulava again got in touch with me and gave 400 USD. It was travel money and I had to leave Georgia for Armenia or Ukraine either on September 18 or on September 19; from there I had to contact Lado Bedukadze who would meet me and assisted me in everything.”
