Human Rights Centre Observed Over 30 Violations in Kakheti

October 2, 2012

Human Rights Centre observed over 30 violations in parliamentary elections in election precincts in Kakheti. The most scandalous were the violations in election precinct #5, in Duisi village of Pankisi Pankisi Gorge. For this reason, the organization's (HRIDC) observer Gela Mtivlishvili demanded that the election results be disregarded.

According to Gela Mtivlishvili, the organization made a complaint about these incidents to the District Election Commission. The organization also enclosed 22 documents in their complaint. These documents were taken from a closed database of electronic materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Complete information about voters was in this document.

Human Rights Centre observers also detected deceased persons on the list in election precinct # 15 in Kvareli of Kakheti. . One of the observers was calling in Azerbaijaniani language- “besh-besh” (which means five) and was therefore agitating for National Movement. This happened in election precinct # 18 in Kabali.

Furthermore, a daughter-in-law voted in her mother-in-law's place in Velistsikhe. Observers could not observe the elections because of the narrow gaps between registration tables in some of the election precincts in Kakheti. Some of the election precincts had not made the necessary arrangements to respect the relevant procedures.

According to the preliminary data, 52% of the population of Kakheti took part in the parliamentary elections.
