IDPs Broke into Tshkenti Lane # 7

October 4, 2012

On October 3, Internally Displaced People broke into the residential building in Tashkenti Lane # 7 in Tbilisi. Interpresnews’ correspondent reported that IDPs have locked the door inside and are not letting anybody enter the building. The head of the security service of the building, Davit Tavartkiladze, told IPN that one of their officers is inside and IDPs are not allowing him to leave the building.

According to the information released, IDPs broke into the residential building about one hour before.. Security officers have stated there are about 50 IDPs inside the building.

Interpresnews interviewed IDPs standing outside the building who said they had entered the building because the territory belongs to them; the Ministry of Accommodation has allocated the space for IDPs though nobody allows them to enter the building.

“We have been raising our children in rented flats for 20 years while this territory is empty and nobody lives inside, though it belongs to us. We demand that governmental officials come and tell us why IDPs are not living here; we are not going to leave the building until everything is made clear. This territory belongs to us,” an IDP woman said.

IDPs from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region are in the building. They said they were evicted from this building in January 2010.

“We were evicted from here in January 2010. We are registered here and even documents of the Civil Registration Agency confirm that we are registered in the flats here. We will not allow anybody to enter here because the case is still being discussed by court and we try to prove our case that this building was allocated for us and we must live here,” IDPs standing outside said.

IDPs claim they had called patrol police half an hour before we talked to them but nobody had arrived yet.
