Georgian Dream’s detained activists from Samtredia released

October 10, 2012

Activists of the Georgian Dream Sergo and Temo kguradzes, detained in Samtredia on August 19, were released.

“Before detention, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Lado Vardzelashvili met me several times and requested to join the National Movement and work for their majoritarian candidate in Samtredia. I categorically refused him and it became motive of my detention,” Temur Kiguradze said.

He spoke about the situation in prison. He said he could not sleep at night because prison employees were knocking on his cell-door. He blames Giorgi Akhobadze in the oppression on him in prison.

Sergo Kiguradze was 2003-2008 champion of free style and Greek-Roman Wrestling of Georgia. Police arrested him in his uncle’s house in Samtredia. During the detention, Sergo Kiguradze’s family members were beaten. On the same day, his relatives protested in front of Samtredia police office and as a result of this rally, his relative Temur Kiguradze was also arrested. Samtredia district court sentenced them to 80-day imprisonment each.
