Lawyer Irma Chkadua’s Son Released from Prison

October 12, 2012

Anri Jokhadze - son of famous human rights defender and lawyer Irma Chkhadua was released from imprisonment under vouch of Kakha Kukava, leader of the political party Free Georgia and Zaza Khatiashvili, president of the Georgian Bar Association.

Law enforcement officers detained Jokhadze on August 26 for the crime punished under Article 260 Part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia (drug-abuse). Human rights defenders qualified this case as politically motivated persecution because Chkadua was actively involved in many famous cases and represented interests of the Georgian Dream’s donators at the court.

Special statement of the political party Free Georgia reads that Anri Jokhadze was student and he has never had problems with law enforcement bodies. Tbilisi Helsinki Group declared Jokhadze to be political prisoner.

Kakha Kukava and Dimitry Lortkipanidze attended trial in Tbilisi City Court. Kukava and Khatiashvili vouched the accused and requested to change preventive measure against him. Court satisfied their petition and changed Jokhadze’s imprisonment into vouch.
