Miners Went on Strike in Chiatura

October 16, 2012

On October 15, at midnight, minors from Shukruti mine from Chiatura went on strike after Chiatura miners’ protest. Workers requested timely distribution of salaries, better sanitary conditions, supply of working cloths in the mine and health insurance of the workers.

It was clarified several days ago that miners received much lower salaries than it was officially registered in salary documents.

Later, employees of Pataridze and Stalini Mine Department expressed solidarity with Shukruti mine and protested. They had equal requests and are not going to return to working places until their requests are satisfied.

Senior officials of mine department have not commented on the fact yet.
