Vakhtang Balavadze Replaced Imereti Regional Governor

Imereti region has a new governor. Former minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia Vakhtang Balavadze from Prime-Minister Vano Merabishvili’s cabinet replaced Lasha Makatsaria on the position.

Former regional governor officially resigned today. Before that, he met media representatives and summarized three-year period of his acting as a regional governor.

Makatsaria told journalists main principle of his work as well as of entire team of the National Movement was doing a job instead earning money.

“We were not the government who demonstrated everything we did before TV-Cameras though journalists wished it. The main purpose for us was to do a job,” Makatsaria told journalists.

Lasha Makatsaria occupied the position of the regional governor in December of 2009. Today, Vakhtang Balavadze officially replaced him.

Vakhtang Balavadze was one of the leaders of the National Movement and Member of Parliament in 2004-2008 and in 2008-2012.
