Workers of Sachkhere Market Went on Strike

October 18, 2012
On October 17, at 9:00 am, traders and workers of the Sachkhere agricultural market nailed the door of the director’s working room. Market workers said the government had sold the market in secret on July 26 and appointed the new director.

The market director Nana Shamanadze did not arrive at work. The market administration personnel request to annul the purchase agreement and assign the market to the district administration again. Market traders said the new owner fixed high taxes for them. In addition to that, the owner has not met the workers yet.

“The market must be renovated and reequipped. We can find the person in Sachkhere who can do it. He was doing this work before though he was not obliged at all; but now, when it is his direct responsibility, he will definitely do it,” Sachkhere resident Meri Buskhrikidze said.
