On October 28, at the first session of the Supreme Council of Adjara Autonomous Republic, prime-minister Bidzina Ivanishvili nominated Archil Khabadze for the position of the chairman of Adjara government.
“He is a young man and has enough energy to work because he will have much to do on this position. He worked in bank; he is a good manager and I think he has all skills necessary to be a good leader of Adjara Autonomous Republic,” Bidzina Ivanishvili said.
Archil Khabadze was head of Cartu Bank’s Adjara office. “We will continue old reforms and make new decision which will take the region into a new reality. We must be leaders,” the nominee Khabadze said.
There were three candidates for the position of the government chairman. Jemal Putkaradze from the proportional list of the Georgian Dream, Archil Khabadze and Armaz Akhvlediani, founder of the Political School; the latter refused to occupy the position.
President of Georgia shall submit the candidature of the nominated chairman to the Supreme Council of Adjara within 10 days.
Opposition members of the Adjara Supreme Council support the candidature of Khabadze but they are not going to take part in the ballot.
