Miners of ChiaturManganum Are Still on Strike

October 29, 2012

On October 28, Social Democrats expressed solidarity with the miners on strike in Itkhvisi Mine. Members of the Coalition Georgian Dream and Social Democrat Party held joint briefing in the mine where ten miners are on hunger-strike.

Coalition members said the regime, which led miners to similar conditions, was finished and it is time to resolve their problems timely.

“I am making this statement as a general secretary of the Social Democrat Party and give guarantee to these people their problems will be systematically raised at the legislative body until their employers satisfy their requests,” Gela Bandzeladze said in the Ikhtvisi mine.

On October 27, it was reported that owners of the Chiaturmanganum intended to launch two-month re-equipment process but it was not official information. Miners doubt the administration tries to use this motive to temporarily stop miners and artificially prolong time to satisfy their requests.
