Investigation Launched into Illegal Interference into GPB Journalist’s Professional Activities

On October 28 the investigation interrogated the GPB camera crew together with six individuals that interfered into professional activities of the crew on October 27, journalist Roman Kevkhishvili of the Georgian Public Broadcasting (GPB) reports.

The incident between GPB camera crew and over ten strangers took place when Roman Kevkhishvili was preparing live of the Vachnadziani village dwellers for the talk show Public Politics.

Some drunk strangers, Kevkhishvili reported, told the villagers standing at the camera that they were not to take part in the program, afterwards they started dispersing the population.

”I was curious to know why they obstructed our live. My inquiry was followed with a verbal abuse,” says Kevkhishvili and thereby points out that afterwards the police was called. The strangers left the scene before the police arrived.

The investigation was launched according to Part 1, Article 154 (Illegal Interference into Professional Activity of Journalists) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

According to Kevkhishvili neither he nor the investigation is at this stage aware of the motive for the interference into professional activities.
