Students Request Prosecutor’s Office to Investigate into Incidents of September 26, 2011

November 1, 2012

Students of Georgian Technical University lodged application to Archil Kbilashvili, chief prosecutor of Georgia.

Student Aleksandre Kobaidze told journalists that they request investigation into the incident of September 26, 2011.

Kobaidze said that on that day four students on hunger-strike were kidnapped from the reception of the University’s rector. Kobaidze was one of them. He said the kidnappers left students in Dzegvi village in Mtskheta district.

Kobaidze said that-time chairman of the Technical University’s self-government Giorgi Kudunashvili, who is now manager of the university, must be punished for the incident. Also, head of Sport, Culture and Students Relation Department of the University Boris Gotolondia, head of security service Rezo Kldiashvili and head of third division of the security service Levan Tatiashvili must be punished; Kobaidze said the latter has disappeared.

“These facts must be investigated by all means. We decided to lodge appeal a year later because it was useless to appeal to the court during the previous government – the trial would have been biased and we would have been found guilty on no grounds. Today we hope situation has changed for better in Georgia, fair trial will be held, the incident will be impartially investigated and every perpetrator, who participated in the kidnapping of students, will be punished. We should also underline that current self-government is not legitimate due to aforementioned circumstances,” Aleksandre Kobaidze said.
