Bidzina Ivanishvili: “Parliamentary Majority Breached Form When Nominating Khatiskatsi as an Ombudsman-to-Be”

November 22, 2012
Prime-Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili believes there is no conflict between nominating Nina Khatiskatsi for the position of public defender and her husband’s appointment to the position of interim governor of Mestia. Ivanishvili said at the meeting with journalists that according to this logic, family members of the public defender shall not work anywhere.

“As for appointment of Khatiskatsi’s husband to the position of interim district governor, I am not fully aware of these procedures but I think it should not contradict each other. If we follow this logic, none of ombudsman’s family members shall get a job. As far as I know similar prohibition does not exist,” Ivanishvili said.

Additionally Ivanishvili declared that parliamentary majority breached the form when they nominated Khatiskatsi as a candidate.

“The form of nominating Khatiskatsi as an ombudsman-to-be by parliamentary majority was breached. We gave priority to the civil society to nominate their candidate and it was my desire. At some point this form was breached and now I want to restore it. Ucha Nanuashvili is also candidate. There are some other candidates and if they wish, the majority will listen to them and then they will make choice between Khatiskatsi and any other candidate,” Ivanishvili said.
