Commission to Study Case of Cutting Down of Chestnut-trees in Tkibuli

November 30, 2012

On November 27, deputy Minister of Environment Nino Sharashidze, representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and Environmental and Natural Resources Parliamentary Committee visited Tkibuli district. Local majoritarian MP Eliso Chapidze also accompanied them.

They visited a place where cut down chestnut-trees were stored. “Here we clearly see they had carried out sanitary cutting down. In fact, healthy trees were cut down. Almost same situation in the town where trees are still illegally cut down,” said Eliso Chapidze.

Deputy minister of environment Nino Sharashidze said a commission will be set up which will examine how lawfully the sanitary cut down was carried out.

Former minister of environment Goga Khachidze has different opinion. “We cut down only sick trees. It was reasonable process in order to save healthy trees from diseases.”
