December 17, 2012

Levan Tumanishivli, who runs a wood processing business in Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia, was arrested after the Revenue Service accused him of tax evasion and illegal logging.

Tumanishivli, 66, is uncle of former PM and secretary general of UNM party Vano Merabishvili.

The Revenue Service said on December 15, that Tao, a company owned and run by Tumanishivli, was engaged in “illegal cutting” of logs in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, which caused GEL 150,000 worth damage. The Revenue Service has also claimed that Tumanishivli was “evading the payment of taxes” by forging financial papers.
