President of Georgia to Fund NGO Sector and Media

President of Georgia, based on the December 17 order, is to launch the Project to Support Civil Sector and Media Development. The goal of the undertaking is to develop civil sector and enhance the role of media. 
 
According to the order issued by President Saakashvili within the framework of the project a non-profit legal person will be selected by means of a competition. The Competition Commission shall present President of Georgia the selected non-profit legal person which, in line with law, will be apportioned GEL 1 mln with the view awarding grants to media outlets and/or other relevant organizations, by means of contest. The sum will be apportioned from the President’s reserve fund.

President Saakashvili’s advisor and former Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze will be chairing the Competition Commission. The Commission will also include Vera Kobalia, former minister of economy and incumbent advisor of President Saakashvili, as well as President’s advisors Van baiburti, Mubarus Karaev and Natalia Kancheli.

The Competition Commission shall secure the announcement of the competition, as well as setting the terms and conditions of the contest and the documents to be submitted to take part in the competition.
