Charter of Journalistic Ethics of Georgia Addresses Sozar Subari

December 27, 2012
Charter of Journalistic Ethics of Georgia addressed Minister of Corrections, Probation and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari, asking for journalists to remain members of the Council for Monitoring of Institutions of Corrections.
Media.ge publishes the text of address without change.

Charter of Journalistic Ethics of Georgia responds to the decision on the participation of journalists in the public monitoring group of institutions of corrections made 22-23 December in Gudauri by international organizations and local NGOs.

First of all we would like to express gratitude for our organization being invited to the given event, although due to the fact that 22 December the general assembly of the Charter of Journalistic Ethics of Georgia was scheduled, our representatives were not able to attend the Gudauri meeting; Member of the Council of the Charter Gela Mtivlishvili joined the meeting later.  Due to this we were not able to fully participate in the meeting and to express our position.

We believe that exclusion of journalists from the monitoring group due to their profession is not grounded as they express readiness to satisfy all the requirements set for the monitoring group members.

Considering the above mentioned arguments the Charter of Journalistic Ethics of Georgia believes that differentiation of members of the public monitoring group should not be conducted due to professions.
