Assembly Failed in Tskaltubo Because of Inter-Party Controversy

January 28, 2013

On January 25, foundation of the Coalition’s district office and election of its chairman was planned at the assembly of the Georgian Dream. However, the assembly failed because GD’s members could not agree on one candidate for the chairman’s position. Inter-party controversy finally turned into dissidence and the assembly was failed.

Part of Georgian Dream’s Tskaltubo office representatives supported Jeiran Liparteliani’s candidature for the chairman’s position; he had chaired the coalition’s election office during the pre-election campaign. The second part supported Lasha Narchemashvili’s candidature, who is brother of the former Minister of Interior Koba Narchemashvili (occupied the position during Shevardnadze’s governance).

After the assembly was failed, Jeiran Liparteliani’s supporters held protest demonstration.

“Narchemashvili was our majoritarian MP during 4 years and did nothing for the district. When we were harassed during the pre-election period, he was watching the ongoing events from outside. Davit Saganelidze lobbies him. We protest his possible appointment to the position. We all know that National Movement’s members sent their people to the Georgian Dream’s office; that was reason of our defeat in the elections,” said a protester.

The date of the next assembly of the Georgian Dream in Tskaltubo is not scheduled yet because of current controversy.
