Coordinators of National Movement to Be Interrogated

February 7, 2013

According to humanrights.ge, coordinators of the National Movement in Lanchkhuti district were summoned to interrogation.

According to our information, the purpose of the interrogation is unreasonable expenditure of funds. Humanrights.ge tried to get in touch with the interrogated people. A chief coordinator of the UNM, who did not wish to publish his name, said the interrogation process was conducted normally and he was not oppressed at all.

“I was interrogated as a witness but I cannot say the purpose of the interrogation due to investigation interests; I do not know whether I will be summoned again or not,” said the former coordinator.

We tried to check the information at the local office of the UNM but head of the office, who is also deputy district governor Kakha Askurava did not answer our phone calls.

As we found out, Askurava is on holiday now and is not in the office. The office of the UNM’s local organization is closed.

Second deputy governor Nugzar Glonti does not have information about interrogation of the UNM coordinators; neither chairman of the UNM fraction in the municipal board Gela Kuridze is informed about it.

Were the UNM coordinators interrogated indeed? We asked this question to Nino Giorgobiani, head of press-center at the MIA.

She said the chief prosecutor’s office of Georgia has already released statement about it.

Head of press-center at the chief prosecutor’s office Khatuna Paichadze confirmed this information and said.

“Only coordinators were not questioned. Investigation is going into a criminal case which will become known to the society in near future. I cannot say anything else before investigation is over. But I can say that all of them were interrogated as witnesses. I cannot tell you whether their investigations will continue or not. It will happen if the investigation procedures require it,” said Khatuna Paichadze.

Lanchkhuti district police confirmed information about interrogation but they refrained from providing us with additional information.
