GYLA to Defend Giorgi Baratashvili’s Rights

March 7, 2013

The Georgian Young Layers Association (GYLA) will be defending the rights of Giorgi Baratashvili, former Director General of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) at court, said Natia Kapanadze, Director of the Georgian Media Legal Defense Center under GYLA reporting to Media.Ge.

Giorgi Baratashvili, Natia Kapanadze said, applied to GYLA on March 6 with a request to have his rights defended at court.

“We met with Baratashvili, having looked through the case-related particulars we decided to plead for him at court. He demands the GPB Board’s decision to be declared invalid,” she told Media.Ge.

According to the head of GYLA‘s Media Legal Defense Center at this stage their working group is developing a mechanism to defend Baratashvili’s rights.

Giorgi Baratashvili reported on his intention to appeal the court’s decision in the course of the March 5 press conference. He believes that the Board had no ground to declare mistrust to him.

Baratashvili, elected by the greater majority of votes  of the supervisory board, has been serving as a Director General for two months.  Based on the March 4 decision issued by the GPB board he was suspended the 6-year labor contract.
